Lyrics from The Sherry Jones Band's River of Love
(all songs © 2003 Sherry Lea Jones)

River Of Love
River of Love, river of fire,
River of pain, born of desire.
Heavenly angel, sent from above,
Help me I’m drownin’ in your river of love.
River of love, river of light,
River of passion, flows in the night.
Heavenly moon, shine down from above.
Shine on me drownin’ in your river of love.
River of love stays on its course.
River of love flows to its source.
Steady and strong, runin’ wild and free.
River of love, is you and it’s me.
River of Love, river of sky,
Big as the feeling between you and I.
Heaven is smilin’ down from above,
Smilin’ down on me drowning in your river of love.

Woman’s Wisdom
The mother-child connection is part of us from birth.
It’s a natural reflection of woman’s tie to earth.
Woman realizes mankind is headed for a fall,
And she recognizes earth as the mother of us all.
The arms of a woman are rockin’ the babe to sleep,
While the ears of a woman are hearing the mother weep.
Mother to child, child to the mother, sister to brother, friend to friend,
We love ourselves, love one another when the loving of the earth begins.
The heart of woman’s wisdom is fashioned in the womb.
It’s a thread of intuition from cradle to the tomb.
In her vision of the future we rise above the past,
And her mission is to ensure the human race will last.
The heart of a woman is feeling the child in need,
While the eyes of a woman are watching the mother bleed.
Mother to child, child to the mother, sister to brother, friend to friend,
We heal ourselves, heal one another when the healing of the earth begins.
We were given woman’s wisdom to counsel and to heal,
And the power of the vision earth’s secrets to reveal.
In this time of new direction, revision and rebirth,
We must make a true connection between ourselves and earth.
The voice of a woman is singing a lullaby,
And the soul of a woman will not let the mother die.
Chorus

That Small Still Voice
Listen to that small still voice inside.
Let it be your counselor and guide.
You need never be afraid about the choices you have made.
Just listen to that small still voice inside.
Listen to the wisdom of the ages.
Read the book but look between the pages.
The insights lying on the shelf can come alive within yourself.
Just listen to the wisdom of the ages.
Sometimes you listen but don’t hear, ’cause you’ve been deafened by your fear,
And misery has left you bowed, bent and broken.
But there’s a counselor at hand if you will only understand,
That the lessons that speak loudest are unspoken.
Listen to the music of your soul.
Let it fill you up and make you whole.
There is a melody so sweet to make the empty life complete.
Just listen to the music of your soul.
Listen to the whisper of creation.
Let it spark your heart’s imagination.
If you are ready for rebirth, you’ll have a heaven here on earth.
Just listen to the whisper of creation.
Sometimes you listen but don’t hear…
Listen to that small still voice inside.
Let it be your counselor and guide.
You need never be afraid about the choices you have made.
Just listen to that small still voice inside.
Listen to that small still voice inside. Can you hear it?
Listen to that small still voice inside.

Lift Me Up resulted from a meditation I had on what performers, singers and songwriters are all about; on what we’re supposed to be doing. By reflecting on what I, as a listener, desire from other performers, I was able to clarify my own life purpose.

Lift Me Up
Lift me up—with some words of inspiration.
Lift me up—lead me from the dark.
Lift me up—show my spirit some illumination.
Tell me words so true, I can fly like eagles do, and my spirit will soar.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up.
Lift me up—with some words of love and kindness.
Lift me up—so I won’t be alone.
Lift me up—tell me how the worst is all behind us.
Tell it from the heart—touch all my tender parts, and my spirit will soar.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up.
Lift me high above my earthly troubles.
Lift me up to where the sky is blue.
Take me where your love flows like a river.
Take me where you make your dreams come true.
Lift me up—with some words of celebration.
Lift me up—above this world of pain.
Lift me up—show my heart a brighter destination.
Sing me words so sweet, they can lift me off my feet, and my spirit will soar.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up.
Lift me high above my earthly troubles…
Lift me up—with some words of celebration…
Sing me words so sweet, they can lift me off my feet, and my spirit will soar.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up.
I want you to shake me to the core and lift me up!

Songwriter
I feel it every time I’m writing a song,
I feel it every time I’m writing a song,
I feel it every time I’m writing a song,
Like I belong.
Back at home on daddy’s knee, I asked him what I should be.
He said “ You be what you want to be.”
I could see it in his eyes, that it took him by surprise,
When I said, “ There’s just one thing that’s right for me.”
Songwriter, that’s what I want to be a songwriter.
When I imagine me a songwriter, then I’m feeling like I belong—
When I’m writing a brand new song.
Back in school when I was young, I kept telling everyone,
When they asked, “What do you want to be?”
I could see it in their eyes, that it took them by surprise,
When I said, “ There’s just one thing that’s right for me.”
Chorus
People told me I was wrong,
Thinkin’ I could write a song.
I knew I could do it all along,
That’s why I feel it.
Chorus

You Don’t Know
You know my life story from beginning to the way you say it ends,
We’re the perfect picture of a man and woman bein’ best of friends.
We share our dreams and goals for the future and the special things we’ve planned.
But though you seem to know me well,
There’s still one thing you just don’t understand.
You don’t know how I feel inside.
It hurts me so, I want to run and hide.
It’s so clear in all you say and do,
You don’t know I’m in love with you.
You know what to get me for my birthday, and you know how old I’ll be.
You know that my childhood wasn’t perfect and it left its mark on me.
You know my favorite color is a certain shade of blue to match my eyes.
But though you seem to know so much,
There’s still one thing you just don’t realize.
Chorus
Listening and learning all the little things,
That’s what you do best.
Thinking and discerning what’s important and discarding all the rest.
I can’t think of anyone who understands me quite the way you do.
But, though you know me through and through,
When it comes down to me and you, it’s obvious you haven’t got a clue.
You know where I run to when I’m feeling I need to be alone.
You know that I’m troubled by the way my voice sounds on the telephone.
You know that when someone I love has hurt me I can never let it show.
But though you seem to know it all,
There’s still one thing I guess you’ll never know.
Chorus

Green Valley Road
I’ve been first and I’ve been last and I’ve been also-ran.
I’ve tried living fast and living slow.
I’ve been in the story where a woman loves a man,
and I have known the pain of letting go.
I was always searching for a place I could belong,
where life was ever happy and serene.
I found out that place was here inside me all along;
an endless, winding road, deep in a valley lush and green.
Anytime I go down that green valley road,
And the sun is breaking through the clouds that crowd the sky of blue,
Then I am reminded how I’ve lightened up my load,
and my sorrows have become a precious few.
If my lessons to be learned are the troubles that I’ve known,
I guess I must have learned a thing or two.
But, they can’t compare in number to the blessings I’ve been shown,
So I thank the one above I found that green valley road.
Times are good and times are bad; time keeps movin’ on.
No one seems to know just where it goes.
I never could appreciate the good times till they’d gone.
I never saw what’s under my own nose.
I was always waiting for a miracle or two to come along and finally set me free.
Now there’s no more waiting for what miracles can do.
I found out the miracle is here inside of me.
Chorus
Let yourself be guided down the green valley road.
Let your heart go on a magic ride.
You may be delighted by the wonders you behold
When traveling the world you hold inside.
Chorus
I said oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful, it feels wonderful, it feels wonderful, it feels wonderful!
And oh, oh yeah! I said oh, oh, oh yeah! I said oh, oh, yeah! It feels wonderful!

I’m Not Twenty
I’m not blond and I’m not twenty, and my butt’s not high and tight.
But I am bright, and warm and funny, and I can rock your world all night.
I’m not slim, petite and curvy, and my skin’s not quite skintight.
But I am soft, sweet and earthy, and I know how to rub you right.
An older woman has her charms, experience and open arms.
Don’t ya pass the horn of plenty by,
Don’t pass on me—’cause I’m not twenty.
Had no plastic surgery, got no silicone.
What you get is what you see, and all I’ve got’s my own.
But even if the man is grey, toothless, fat or bald,
And even if he’s grandpa’s age, he won’t give me a call ‘cause—
I’m not blond and I’m not twenty, and my body’s movin’ south.
But I’ve got moves, and if you let me, I can love you inside out.
I’m not buff, built like a goddess, and my suit’s not wrinkle free.
But pardon me if I’m immodest—I’ve got everything you need.
Chorus

It Feels Wonderful
I am standing in the light of love.
I am reaching to the heavens above.
I am standing in the light of love.
And, oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful!
I am shining in the dark of night.
I am glowing with remarkable light.
I am shining in the dark of night.
And, oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful!
It feels wonderful to know that
My heart has found it’s holy land, and
My spirit’s making footprints in the sand.
I am finally on my path, and I mean to
Walk it everyday, and surrender to loveIn every way.
I am singing with a voice of strength.
I am stretching to immeasurable length.
I am singing with a voice of strength.
And, oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful!
I am walking on the path of power.
I am growing, hour by hour.
I am walking on the path of power.
And, oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful!
We are standing in the light of love.
We are reaching to the heavens above.
We are standing in the light of love.
And oh, oh yeah, I said oh, oh, oh yeah!
I said oh, oh yeah! It feels wonderful, it feels wonderful, it feels wonderful, it feels wonderful!
And oh, oh yeah, I said oh, oh, oh yeah!
I said oh, oh, yeah, it feels wonderful!

Only Love is Real was inspired by a book by Brian L. Weiss, M.D., about a couple so in love they follow each other lifetime after lifetime, reincarnating so that they can be together again. For me, it really sums up my overall philosophy: that everything in our daily lives that we take so seriously and think is so important is all illusion, that the only thing that is real is love, and that love transcends all temporal experiences and crosses all boundaries of time and space.

Only Love Is Real
Living our lives with stars in our eyes for the great reward.
Love is the signal beacon, love is the final prize we keep moving toward.
Running the race till we come face-to-face with the great divine.
Love is the higher mountain, love is the rocky place we will always climb.
Lifetime after lifetime while we’re hurtling in space,
There is a constant thread with which we weave.
Lifetime after lifetime, no matter which path we embrace,
There is just one truth in which we must believe.
Only love is real (only love is real),
Only love can stand the test of time.
Of all we think and feel (only love is real),
From the ludicrous to the sublime.
Each and every time around the wheel,
No matter how the web of life is spun, when all is said and done,
Only love is real.
Knowing it all each time that we fall from the earthly plane,
Love is the light in darkness, love is the karmic call that brings us back again.
Breaking the spell of heaven and hell as we live and learn,
Love is the greatest teacher, love is the deeper well where we must return.
Lifetime after lifetime in every different time and place,
No matter which disguises we may wear;
Lifetime after lifetime in every different kind of face,
There is just one message we see mirrored there.
Chorus
